The government is making it easier for employers to manage their responsibilities under the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) scheme. Here’s what’s new and how it benefits employers:
Key Change: Simplified Evidence for Accreditation
Starting 20 November 2024, employers must ensure:
- Staff involved in hiring decisions complete Employment New Zealand learning modules.
- Migrant workers are given paid time to complete these modules.
What’s different?
Employers no longer need to submit proof of these completions when renewing their accreditation. However, Immigration New Zealand (INZ) may request evidence if there are concerns.
Faster Visa Processing
The focus remains on speeding up visa decisions. In October 2024, INZ processed significantly more applications compared to September:
- 73% more AEWV applications
- 57% more Job Checks
- 25% more employer accreditations
The number of applications still in progress has dropped:
- AEWV applications are down 51% since September 2024, the lowest since 2022.
- Employer accreditation applications have decreased 41%, and Job Check applications are down 28%.
Future Improvements Under Review
The next stage of the AEWV review is looking into additional simplifications, including:
- Removing the need to submit employment agreements with Job Check applications.
- Easing requirements around completing Employment New Zealand modules.
Tips to Avoid Delays
- Submit complete applications with all required information. Missing documents can cause delays or even lead to rejection.
- Stay updated with the latest guidelines to ensure smooth processing.
