Allocation priorities for international student visa applications

Allocation priorities for international student visa applications

2/02/25, 11:00 pm

Immigration New Zealand (INZ) is adjusting the allocation process for international student visa applications to better assist students currently in New Zealand who are awaiting the start of new studies.

To enhance efficiency during the peak summer processing period, INZ is modifying how it allocates international student visa applications from students within New Zealand. The focus will be on prioritizing applications from those applying for a second or subsequent student visa, especially when changing to a new provider or course. This prioritization ensures that students receive the necessary visa with updated study conditions before commencing their new courses.

It's important to note that while certain applications may be allocated first, this does not guarantee they will be processed in that exact order. INZ will continue to handle other international student visa applications based on the date they were received.

The completeness and quality of an application significantly influence processing times. Students are urged to submit all required information when applying. INZ's student visa information sheets provide detailed guidance on necessary documentation. Due to the high volume of applications during summer, INZ may not contact students for missing documents before allocation. Incomplete applications risk being declined. Specifically, students applying from within New Zealand must include their tuition fee receipt upfront to avoid potential declines.
